UK darling, master of soft tones and sharp edges, James Blake was welcomed into BBC's Maida Vale studio to record a live session, playing three songs from his debut album out next month. Blake's morphed from a remixer of Destiny's Child to a futuristic producer to a sparse semi-electronic D'Angelo, and you get a taste of all his faces between these two performances. At Boiler Room, Platform's weekly semi-public DJ night night, Blake played everything from his own Outkast remix to to Burial, Beyonce and Loefah. He exists somewhere at the bottom of that melting pot, or maybe as the one stirring the spoon. Is he the sum of his interests? A new species entirely? Either way, he's proving himself always worthy of that curiosity.
