The footage of Justin Bieber singing in Never Say Never, both on stage and off, is the best evidence we can't ignore that he is a strong singer. Still, a large device of dramatic tension in that spectacle was the Bieber team's decision to cancel a large show so that Justin could go on 'vocal rest'. At last Sunday's Grammys, following a long North American tour and on the eve of one in Europe, he sounded strained. Some voices age gracefully, others don't. R. Kelly is 44, doesn't sound one bit less perfect on this Lex Luger-assisted #pufpufftuesdays track than he ever has. Today on the radio in New York and on the internet, Shirley Halperin (who wrote the excellent Hollywood Reporter feature on Camp Bieber and LA Reid) will consider the imminent disaster of Justin's vocal maturation.
