This morning, just before 6:30AM EST time, Venus sent an email about her new mixtape, originally recorded for an art show and updated with "a new intro for todays events." Groggily, that did not make sense, even after clicking the link and hearing the roboticized announcement appended to the brief mix. And then I looked at the NY Times and saw the horrible news of the 7th most powerful earthquake in history confirmed. Videos of black water running over farmland, boats being bounced around, the kind of nonchalant apocalypse footage Michael Bay movies could never replicate. It's sad and scary and somehow encapsulating of our times to first learn about it in a Soundcloud mixtape, but at least there's some refuge in that connection—hopefully for those directly affected by this disaster. Thoughts out to all out there in Japan, Hawaii, Alaska and everyone praying for shit to not get any worse.
