Here's something confusing: Dawn Golden and Rosy Cross is actually just the work of one dude, Dexter Tortoriello, who you may be familiar with from Houses. Or maybe not? That project is still finding its voice and place. Previous knowledge of that is not necessary to enjoy this, though. "Blacks" feels laser-focused in its minimalism. Drums barely exist, instead warm, ambient noise is shaped into a rising and falling pulse. There's vocals too, but they're barely noticeable, just another serene element in an unsettlingly serene song. "Blacks" will appear on Tortoriello's upcoming EP Blow, out April 12, on Mad Decent/Downtown.
