"Driving 88" is the title track from buzzing XXL Freshman candidate Rockie Fresh’s newest mixtape. Its sparse and textured beat, courtesy producer Mansur, has an unusual momentum, as if pieces of it were swinging independently from the groove. The effect is something like watching the car-chandeliers swing in Escape from New York. Fresh, who recently completed a national tour with Patrick Stump, has a tempered, controlled style, which balances nicely with the dynamic, loose and low-key production.
