One time (maybe more than one time) in the FADER office, I went on a half-formed rant about how there hasn't been a really in-depth look at the white dude skunky weed and psych guitar funk of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros. Some of that music has aged well, and some of it really, really hasn't. Anthony Kedis scat rapping about going on a walkabout is one of those things that I can recall with astonishing clarity, and I'm not sure that's the way my life needs to be. But there are moments, especially earlier ones, that are totally okay to incorporate into music. I'm not implying that Pond are RHCP 2.0, but there are moments of fried guitar soloing and wedding-funk low-end that definitely bring that to mind, meaning that Pond are traveling a risky, but potentially rewarding pathway of Sunset Strip (what's the Australian equivalent?) decadence and legitimately fun and unselfconscious rock music.
