Rollie Pemberton, the man behind
Cadence Weapon and certainly the only rapper/ former
Pitchfork writer to make the jump to
poet laureate of Edmonton, is pointing the way toward his third album,
Hope In Dirt City, out late next month. "Conditioning" is the first song we've heard, available for download below and featured above in a beautiful video directed by
Tim Kelly. The cinematographer on "Conditioning" was
Evan Prosofsky, the guy behind that incredible "
Oblivion" video for fellow Canadian,
Grimes (someone Cadence Weapon has
collaborated with as well), again filming the world like it's behind a wall of morning rain. The song's great too, with Pemberton's dynamic voice kicking up old school's gravel and stretching to soulful highs.
Hope In Dirt City comes out May 29th on
Upper Class.
