After How To Dress Well released Love Remains, an album's worth of meditations on love and, more specifically, loss, cloaked in a dense fog of rumbling low-end, I wasn't sure where he could go without making basically the same thing again. It was a singular statement—more experience than cohesive record, but it worked. Total Loss might be the second HTDW full length, but it feels like the first album. "Ocean Floor For Everything" is the first single, and it's gorgeous and plodding at the same time, like it's grasping at something transcendent. It sounds familiar, but richer, newer—a crystalline take on a sound worth exploring. Total Loss is out this fall on Acephale in North America and Weird World internationally.
