During Lil B’s lecture at NYU this spring—still readable in its entirety here—Earth's strangest rapper announced an unexpected new project, a rock album:
Regardless of me selling platinum records or me going gold or nothing, I already made history in rap. Nobody has ever done what I’ve done. So with that, out of respect for people, I’m not just some joke. I’m not some rapper who’s going to make some joke rock album. This is going to be real respect. This is going some garage punk. This is going to be for the rebels. And the women and the ladies, we about to be having a real good time. Look out for my Lil B rock album, California Boy.
Tonight he released that album's titular track. It's unsurprisingly earnest, and you know what, it's catchy as hell. When the Impact-font title card rolls around at the video's close—typically a spot reserved for great rants, whether they be challenging NBA player Kevin Durant to a game of one-on-one or instructing fans to love baby insects—there's just a simple message: "LIL B HAS MADE HISTORY."
