The live-wire bombast of Edinburgh-based trio Young Fathers feels familiar, like the distant Scottish cousin to the unbridled bro-dom of OF or Wu Lyf , but geographically removed enough to be totally unique in sound and approach. Made up of three musicians—Alloysious Massaquoi, who is originally from Liberia, Kayus Bankole, who is Nigerian and 'G' Hastings, who hails from the Drylaw "scheme" in north Edinburgh—the group stirs a melting pot of noise and influence into big, catchy songs. "Deadline," the first single from their forthcoming release Tape One, feels like a blown-out electric simulation of a riotous football rally, its chorus like a fight song. Download "Deadline," and watch their self-directed video, above. The band will be promoting Tape One (out in late November on new label Anticon) with a string of tour dates supporting Why?
