Darkstar’s last record, North, worked so well because it took sterile electronics and wedded them to a kind of achingly pretty warmth that made each song feel like its own tiny universe with its own gravity to keep it moving. "Timeaway," the first single from Darkstar's upcoming sophomore album on Warp, adheres to that same idea, speeding up what sounds like a clock ticking until it loses its original rhythm. "Timeaway" sounds like it may as well have been made in a space shuttle not too far in the future, but the fact that it still sounds so human is a testament to the band's songwriting skills.
