One curious detail in the story of Slava Balasanov, as chronicled in our GEN F profile on the New York-based producer last year, is that he became really obsessed with free jazz for a time after relocating from Soviet Moscow to Chicago at the age of twelve. The music he makes as Slava today culls its source material from dance music and Top 40 tropes, but you can still kind of hear the unhinged improv talking in the footwork-like, jackhammer syncopations of "On It." The song is the first single from his upcoming debut, Raw Solutions, due out April 13 via Software.
