The fact that Rainer Veil are on Modern Love, the same label as early morning atmospherics master Andy Stott, makes a lot of sense. There's plenty of darkness on Struck, but it feels cathartic, too. Liam Morley and Dan Valentine shape white noise and static hiss into a fluid backbone for distant vocals and clacking percussion. The result is shadowy but not bleak, and it sounds rain-soaked and damp enough that you could use some of it as a soundtrack for the next episode of The Killing or something, though it's much more involved than that. Listening to Struck is like immersing yourself in a fully formed, thriving world.
