Wax Idols singer Hether Fortune has this vocal trick on "When It Happens." For most of the track, she's singing about loneliness (and, potentially, the end of the world) with a distance that sits somewhere between deadpan and disaffected, but when the chorus hits, her voice explodes. That, paired with the tense riffs and loping drums, makes for a song that is as beautiful as it is dark. Wax Idols' Discipline & Desire is out March 26th on Slumberland.
