Love him or hate him, Riff Raff is firmly a pop culture entity at the moment. He, or some iteration of him, is fairly inescapable. As a rapper, he is often a compelling mess, barely able to stay on beat or really focus on a single idea. When he does manage to get that far, though, it's often very good. His verse on Action Bronson's "Bird on a Wire" is still a career highlight, and "Bout It Girl" works in the same vein, forcing Riff Raff to dial it way back, and throw out phrases that cut through Matt Shadetek’s grungy minimal bounce. "Bout It Girl" comes from Shadetek's The Empire Never Ended, out March 26th on Dutty Artz.
