On past songs, Oxford, Mississippi's John Barrett, bka Bass Drum of Death, always seemed like he was circling around making anthemic garage rock, never quite willing to commit to the big, catchy choruses that make singles last. But "Shattered Me," the first single from his upcoming self-titled album (out June 25th on Innovative Leisure), is a thick nugget of fuzzy guitars, a huge refrain and a sticky melody. It's as urgent as it is infectious.
