On days like today, where muggy air radiates from the city's concrete, seeming to evaporate up with flecks of dirt and bird shit, I hate the summer. Understated rock albums like Portland trio WL's Hold, their debut LP, are the type of sedative I need to keep my grumpy blood from boiling over. Hold might not knock you out on first listen, but will work its way in and out of the coming weeks, the low-key growler "Belonging" pairing with the sound of overworked ACs and floating "Chance" with the feeling of having a slightly, perpetually red face. The album comes out digitally and on cassette on July 16th via Prospect & Refuge, with preorders available now.
