Touching Voids is a new, three-dude Chicago band, comprised of childhood friends Ziyad Asrar and Malcolm Brown and drummer Julien Ehrlich. (Asrar and Ehrlich both play with Smith Westerns; Ehrlich previously did time with Unknown Mortal Orchestra.) They're working on a debut LP in Asrar's mom's basement, paring down the power pop choruses of Smith Westerns into something more simple and puddly. "Untied" is a gorgeous downer tagged "Trance," Asrar's singing resigned but not desperate-sounding, the drums sweetly dragging their feet. Good stuff to waste the evening in your hot summer bedroom with.
