The annual BET Hip Hop Awards, filmed last weekend in Atlanta, are set to air on TV October 15th. AllHipHop has shared a preview of one of the show's seven freestyle cyphers, an all-TDE affair that featured Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, SZA and Isaiah Rashad. In it, with a decidedly not-neutral facial expression, Lamar pokes at Drake:
Yeah, and nothing’s been the same since they dropped "Control"
And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes
Ha ha, jokes on you, high-five, I’m bulletproof
Your shit'll never penetrate
Pin the tail on the donkey
Boy you been a fake
Back in August, Lamar challenged Drake and ten other rappers by name on "Control (HOF)" a promotional buzz single for Big Sean. In September, shortly before the TDE cypher was filmed, Drake questioned the significance of Lamar's verse in an interview with Elliott Wilson. "[Kendrick] is giving people moments," he said. "But are you listening to it now, at this point in time? Okay... It was real cool for a couple weeks." He continued, "If I asked you, for example, how does that verse start?" This friendly scrapping follows the two rappers' time on tour together in 2011, and Lamar's two-minute interlude on Drake's Take Care track "Buried Alive."
