Tired of reading the same recommended books from the usual sources? Just think of our weekly What We’re Reading column as your non-committal book club with FADER and some of your favorite bands. For this installment, ratchet R&B crooner Ty Dolla $ign reviews lite spiritual texts, his daughter's bedtime reads and industry mags. Disclosure: we didn't ask him to talk about us, he just did.
Life Visioning: A Four-Stage Evolutionary Journey to Live as Divine Love
by Michael Bernard Beckwith
I just got this book. I've seen the movie The Secret and been to Agape, Beckwith's spiritual center in Los Angeles, so I wanted to check out his book. I try to stay in tune with the Universe.
Judy Moody
by Megan McDonald
If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see that I spend a lot of time with my daughter. We kick it in the studio, go out to dinner and even skate together. I read with her all the time—well, now she mostly reads to me. Haha. Right now her favorite book series is Judy Moody. This is one of our top bedtime reads.
Billboard magazine
I enjoy reading, but I don't really get a lot of time to sit down and read books. I tend to read magazines mainly when I'm in the studio, at the airport or traveling. Billboard is like the music industry's bible. Lately, I've had to start paying attention to the charts more, to stay current on the business of music. Thankfully, there's usually a copy laying around at every studio I record at.
The FADER
I recently bought the Haim cover at the airport. They're from Los Angeles and are tight as fuck! Y'all always have good articles.
