Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, probably the planet's most creative pop star, just released the music video for "Mottai Night Land," her first single since this summer's number one-selling album (in Japan) Nanda Collection. Truth be told, I wasn't too impressed with the run of videos that followed last year's "Fashion Monster," and was feeling a bit worried that the recent emphasis on going global was dulling Team Kyary's imagination. But fear no more: "Mottai Night Land" is a tour de force, featuring a catchy hook, a dance with the moon, an anime segment and oiled-up bikini dancers. Overt sexuality has always been obscured in Kyary's music and videos, and to see her confront it, and for the cherubic singer to cower in the face of scantily clad grown women, only adds to her music's confusion regarding sex. In any case, this looks amazing.
