FADER PREMIERE
Nick Hakim’s sweet soul plays like hymns from the stuff of nightmares—broken hearts and desolation, mostly. On "Pour Another," the 23-year-old immediately recalls another lovelorn balladeer: Bon Iver. But while Justin Vernon captures woodsy isolation at its most austere, Hakim's melodic bent is more urban, a dingy underbelly of big city grime and even bigger heartache. It's one thing to be alone; it's quite another to be alone in a metropolis of millions. Here, Hakim offers up a whiskey-tinged "there, there" for anyone who's been drinking and thinking. "[It's] the musical backdrop for the intoxicated and lonely," he tells FADER. Cheers. Nick Hakim's debut album, Where Will We Go, is scheduled for release this spring.
