The FADER FORT Presented by Converse, our annual four-day live music experience, continued yesterday in downtown Austin with performances by Buscabulla, Glass Animals, Mas Ysa, Eagulls, Theophilus London and more. A few highlights: New Zealand's Connan Mockasin played an engrossing set of vintage psych-pop while dressed in one of this year's best FORT looks, chills-inducing vocalist Sam Smith sang a half-speed version of his career-launching Disclosure collab, and Jeremih performed the as-undeniable-as-ever "Birthday Sex" during his joint set with West Coast beatsmith Shlohmo. When we weren't singing along, we sipped Captain Morgan White cocktails and Budweiser tall-cans, spray painted our own pair of Converse sneakers, messed around with gadgets in Dell and Intel's indoor installation (there's a wall-sized version of Flappy Bird in there), and kicked it with the forward-thinking Glass Is Life gang outside in the warm, yellow, Texas sunlight. Since we're celebrating The FADER's 15th anniversary this year, The FORT grounds are decorated with magazine covers new and old, some framed and hung on the wall like family photos, others blown up on a larger-than-life scale. Later, Chromeo closed out Day 2 with an encore performance of a decade-old favorite.
