FADER PREMIERE
Russ Manning started writing songs for his Rush Midnight project back in 2010 while on tour as the bassist for Twin Shadow, and though he has released an EP since, this self-titled is his first full-length. Out next Tuesday on Last Gang Records, the album jams all the way through, with a bassline so smooth and popping that the record reads as one long, amazing groove. There's a chilliness and tightness to it—think Blood Orange without the emotional messiness—but lyrics and tone point to real intimacy beneath the cool exterior: "One You'll Outrun" has a sweet melancholy that feels super fresh, and album-closer "All I Want" sounds like one of Depeche Mode's more introspective songs. Pre-order the album here and check out his tour dates below, starting tonight in London, Ontario.
