Watch Angsty LA Duo Girlpool Perform in an Empty Pool
To cope with the mysterious disappearance of their Bandcamp page, watch the pair sing “American Beauty” and “Paint Me Colors.”
Had a scary moment first thing this morning when I went over to Girlpool's Bandcamp page and found it had been wiped clean. It might have something to do with the LA-based duo's recent announcement that Wichita is pressing a newly mastered version of the pair's self-titled LP in November, or it might be a glitch. Either way, I was bummed. I really wanted to listen to "American Beauty," a sweetly scathing pop song from Girlpool about lust, that Kevin Spacey movie, and oral sex. Luckily, I only had to dig around for like, two minutes before I found this two-song performance clip, filmed by Stumble on Tapes a few months ago in the bottom of an empty swimming pool. A couple seconds into "Paint Me Colors," it became apparent that their huge harmonies and sparse, twangy arrangements were meant to be heard like this all along. "American Beauty" starts at 3:57; listen to their just-released new version of "Jane" below, too.
