Watch TV on the Radio’s “Happy Idiot” Video Starring Pee Wee Herman
The Brooklyn indie rock band’s latest clip features Pee Wee Herman’s Paul Reubens and ‘Doctor Who’ actress Karen Sheila Gillan.
Earlier this month, we reported on TV on the Radio's dynamic new single "Happy Idiot" from its forthcoming album Seeds. Now there's an official video for the song – which premiered Tuesday on Funny or Die – and it features the very unlikely pairing of the indie rock band and actor Paul Reubens, best known for his iconic role as Pee Wee Herman. In this surrealistic-looking clip, Reubens portrays a maverick driver named Racer Steven who speeds his car in the desert while blissfully lip-synching to the song. Also featured in the video is actress Karen Sheila Gillen (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy), who wears different outfits and hangs out with the TV on the Radio members, all of whom are impeccably dressed. In a press statement, singer Tunde Adebimpe described about getting Reubens to do the video: "I got to speak with him over the phone about doing it and, in between being blindingly nervous that I was actually talking to an actor who had shaped a LOT of my world view and trying not to freak him out by saying so, he mentioned that he's been a fan of the band for awhile. He liked the idea, and, somehow, here we are with Paul as a race car driver losing his mind." Check out the trippy-looking video above. Meanwhile, the band launches a tour on October 17th in Santa Barbara. Seeds comes out on November 18th.
