Drake Over Deep House: Hear Amateur Dance’s ‘Talking About Yourself’ EP
For his new EP, the Melbourne producer pulls from an hour-long Drake interview: “I’m not content by any means, but I’m a happy person.” Beautiful.
I'm playing this on office speakers and someone, intermittently, for 10 minutes, has been doing a dance of martial arts poses with wavy rave arms. I think they're right for that. Ruth Saxelby says it sounds like Human Traffic in here. In addition to really deftly building waves of retro techno, Melbourne producer Amateur Dance is a nearly peerless flipper of samples, from his early tracks with Death Cab for Cutie piano and strongman speeches to "Talking About Yourself," the opening track of his new EP for Australia's very own October Records, which pulls from an hour-long Drake interview Canadian radio: "I'm actually not that guy in real life… I'm not content by any means, but I'm a happy person." This is the essence. This is beautiful music. Agghghghhghgh. Stream it all below, with special attention to the message in "Advocate for Love," and preorder here before it comes out on 10/17.
