Any time the usually press-shy Prince does something on the national stage—e.g. his 2007 Super Bowl half-time show gig, or his appearance on the TV show New Girl—it's kind of a big deal. That will certainly be the case this coming November 1st, when the Purple One, along with his band 3RDEYEGIRL, will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live with host Chris Rock, The New York Times reports. SNL made the announcement via Twitter today:
We’re so excited to welcome back @chrisrock and musical guest Prince (@3RDEYEGIRL) for our November 1 show! #SNL #SNL40

On Monday, 3RDEYEGIRL's Twitter account sent out a tweet hinting of an announcement, with a photo of Rock clad in Purple Rain-era attire providing a clue:

It'll actually be Prince's third time on Saturday Night Live. He first appeared on the show in 1981, performing "Party Up," and then in 2006 he returned to showcase "Fury" and "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed."
The artist recently released two new albums Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum, the latter with 3RDEYEGIRL. Meanwhile, listen to "Way Back Home" from Art Official Age below.
