Youth Code’s “Consuming Guilt” Video Will Haunt Your Dreams
Maybe don’t watch it.
Video director Grant Singer—who's made clips for Sky, DIIV, and Ariel Pink—doesn't usually produce work this dark. But here, linking with industrial duo Youth Code and LA's MoCA, he put out something that's legitimately more terrifying than anything on our skin-crawling Netflix roundup; the YouTube title contains a WARNING, if that's any indication. "We wanted to use this video as an opportunity to show the public the inhumane practices of animal testing," Singer said in a press release. To accomplish that, they've recreated those gruesome practices, except using human test subjects instead. Set against relentlessly harsh electronics and some hell-summoning screams, then cobbled together like a found footage nightmare, it's tough to watch this thing without wincing—and maybe impossible to watch it twice. But it sure makes you feel something. "Consuming Guilt" is off the pair's A Place to Stand EP, out now on Dais.
