Watch Killer Mike’s Speech On The Ferguson Ruling
“You motherfuckers got me today, but you motherfuckers will not own tomorrow.”
Last night, after months of deliberating, a grand jury decided not to indict Ferguson, MO police officer Darren Wilson for shooting and killing unarmed teenager Michael Brown. It's a decision that was reached after the grand jury heard 70 hours of testimony from 60 witnesses over the course of 25 days—and, if you're someone with a shred of respect for the human race in general, it's a decision that comes across as both depressingly unsurprising and deeply, seriously fucked up. (St. Louis Public Radio has uploaded all the grand jury evidence released to the public, and it's available to download here.)
Last night, Killer Mike and El-P took the stage as Run the Jewels at the Ready Room in St. Louis, while protests occurred in nearby Ferguson as well as across the country. Killer Mike has been an outspoken, necessary voice over the last few months regarding Michael Brown's death, and last night was no different; the duo took the stage sans their usual entrance music as Mike addressed the crowd in a speech that was at turns highly emotional, impassioned, angry, and in the end, hopeful. Video of Mike's speech before Run the Jewels' set has surfaced and is available to watch above.
