Dive Into The Meditative Noise Of Vision Fortune’s “Back Crawl II”

The ATP Recordings duo know a thing or two about grinding with grace.

In the late 2000s, All Tomorrow's Parties' long-running weekend festival in the UK dealt in vibrations of the steely and industrial kind. Acts like Sunn O))) and Holy Fuck cleaned out my ears and turned me on to the meditative possibilities of noise. One of the newest signings to the festival's record label arm is a London duo called Vision Fortune, and they know a thing or two about swaddling the senses in soundwaves. Take the grinding grace of "Back Crawl II," for example, from their new album Country Music, out February 10th on ATP Recordings.

"'Back Crawl II' was recorded in a rented villa in Tuscany, where we got really into playing water polo, and these games got pretty competitive," Vision Fortune told The FADER over email. "We normally accompanied matches with selected tracks from Metallica's St. Anger blasting over the poolhouse stereo, but then we came up with the idea of creating our own tracks to get us 'pumped up' during a game. 'Back Crawl II' features the sound of Austin diving in whilst attempting a particularly impressive dry pass, and was the soundtrack to an exhilarating match against the villa's service staff. Although they won, after hearing the song blast out over the rolling Tuscan hills, it was clear who the real winners were."
