Raye is a sultry seventeen-year-old singer from South London, and she's not one to fall for basic gestures. On "Flowers," a new track she's premiering today to hold fans over while she gets to work on her debut album, she croons over a warm, burble of R&B: flowers from myself, so why would I want them from you? "[The song] carries for me an important message of independence," she tells FADER. "We are taught by media and movies to be reliant and dependent on love. These depictions of love are found in objects like love hearts and flowers. This song rebels against that—I'm not one for soppy love and I am not one for flowers."
