Artist and provocateur Kehinde Wiley opens the "A New Republic" exhibit this weekend in New York, showcasing his massive canvas portraits at the Brooklyn Museum. He gained fame for street casting every day African American subjects and framing them in the classic poses of the Old Masters, creating a friction that's too simple to overstate yet too striking too ignore. The exhibit features Wiley works dating from 2006, and is showing throughout May 2015.
