This morning, during his SXSW keynote address, the ever-enterprising Snoop Dogg revealed that he is developing an HBO drama in conjunction with Menace II Society director Allen Hughes and The Boondocks writer Rodney Barnes. The series will center on an family living in Los Angeles in the early 1980s under the specter of Reganomics, and will be something of a reflection of the Long Beach rapper's experience coming up during an era he described today as "a shift" from "having fun and playing football to selling drugs and shooting at each other."
Snoop, who will hold the title of executive producer, described HBO as the "number one network in the world as far as developing and making these shows come to life" and Hughes as one of his favorite directors. "This is like a dream come true, to tell a story in the right way on the right network," he said. Later in the talk he also teased an upcoming foray into the cannabis business.
