New Zealand Oddball Silicon Drops “God Emoji” Video
“While we pray to the God Emoji our imaginations get the best of us.”
Kody Nielson—aka Silicon, aka the brother of Unknown Mortal Orchestra mastermind Ruben—joins the ranks of other New Zealand-based eccentrics, like his brother and Connan Mockasin, who are making mind-bending and oddly soulful pop songs. "God Emoji" is a claustrophobic earworm, and the video's a total trip: a hermitic Kody lounges around in a bathtub and stares out contemporary-looking, floor-to-ceiling windows with an e-cigarette permanently in his grip. The setting jumps around from an empty street to a neon-lit forest to the aforementioned modern home. There's some sort of floating head haunting the scene, too. "While we pray to the God Emoji our imaginations get the best of us," Nielson told FADER in an email when asked about the song/clip. Pretty out-there, but then again, so is this visual. Silicon's debut full-length is coming later this year.
