“2 On,” Tinashe’s breakout single, was a clever way to get attention—a dance song from a singer who actually wasn’t that interested in making music for dancing. Her studio debut, Aquarius, showed her preference for slow tempos and breathy, sensual tracks. But there was one exception: “All Hands On Deck,” another slinky, upbeat tune with DJ Mustard-like production from Stargate and Cashmere Cat.
“All Hands On Deck” has gotten a lot of attention in 2015: earlier this year, Iggy Azalea hopped on the official remix, and the song’s music video earned praise from Kanye West and Lena Dunham. Now Tinashe has released another remix featuring Dej Loaf, a breakout star in 2014 who is still searching for a follow-up to her irresistible single “Try Me.” Check out the new version of the track above, and read FADER’s interview with JaQuel Knight, who choreographed the “All Hands On Deck” clip.
