Over the weekend, Chief Keef attempted to perform as a hologram at a free benefit concert to raise money for the family of Dillan Harris, a one year-old killed by a getaway car after a shooting earlier this year. Despite the peaceful message of the show, the Chicago Mayor’s office prevented the event from taking place in the city. When Keef attempted to make it happen across the border in Indiana, the cops shut that down too, noting that he has “a history that’s anti-cop, pro-gang and pro-drug use.”
On Twitter yesterday, Keef declared that it was time for things to change in city government. “Call Mayor of Chicago… and tell him to stay the fuck off the people’s music,” he wrote. He later added, “I’m running for mayor of Chicago..... Vote for me!” No word yet as to whether he'll be running in person or as a hologram.
Keef is not the only rapper thinking about politics: Waka Flocka Flame is also planning a Presidential run. Check the tweets below, and revisit Keef's FADER cover story.
