J Dilla released his remarkable Donuts album in 2006. Less than a decade later, it's already inspired a donut shop: Dilla's Delights will be opening sometime soon in the rapper/producer's hometown of Detroit. The store is run by Dilla's uncle, Herman Hayes. Hayes told Daily Detroit, "Making doughnuts is something I can do for the rest of my life. It is something my kids, grandkids and Dilla's kids have to build their life on. Naturally, you go into business for profit, but at the same time, this is spiritual because we have to protect J.Dilla's legacy in a positive manner." Daily Detroit reported today that construction on Dilla's Donuts is progressing. You can see pictures of the space here, and revisit the life lessons we learned from Dilla's mom.
