Digital Music News reports that Spotify is planning to make some content available strictly to paying subscribers. According to Digital Music News, the company is contemplating several options. Free users might only be allowed to listen to a few songs from a big-name album, or they would only be able to listen to an album for free for a short time-period. Spotify hopes this would entice more users to join the paying tier. It would also “drive more revenue around the most sought-after superstars.”

This transition could happen in “early 2016.” On October 1, Spotify reportedly has to renew its licensing deals with the major labels.
