Though he initially denied he had recorded a song for the upcoming 24th James Bond movie Spectre, Sam Smith today announced that he has in fact done just that. Titled "Writing's On The Wall," the song was written by Smith along with his longtime collaborator (and "Stay With Me" co-writer) Jimmy Napes, and is the first Bond theme to be recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.
"This is one of the higlights of my career," Smith wrote on Instagram (above). "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations."
Capitol Records will make "Writing's On The Wall" available to purchase and stream on September 25, ahead of the movie's release in the U.K. on October 26 and the U.S. on November 6. Until then, relive the last James Bond theme song "Skyfall," as sung by Adele in 2012, here.
