In a recent interview with Q, Grimes discussed her highly-anticipated new album. She apparently found inspiration in "bro-art"—including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and The Godfather—when constructing the new material. "One song on the album, 'Kill V Maim,' is written from the perspective of Al Pacino in The Godfather Pt 2," she noted. "Except he's a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space."
Grimes also changed locations when putting together her latest record. "I moved to Squamish, a small town in British Colombia," she said. "There was a lot of 'crazy' going on, but it was organized 'crazy'—like lying in the dark and seeing if I could hallucinate. It felt good, letting myself be a total fucking weirdo. And I had cookies."
In addition, Grimes shared her album artwork today on Twitter, and announced that the new full-length will be named Art Angels. She plans to put out "music and video next week." Revisit her FADER cover story.
