Joining Killer Mike, Lil B, and Scarface, Bun B has endorsed Bernie Sanders for president. Bun extended his blessing in conversation with Matt Sonzala and Fat Tony, on the debut episode of Sonzala’s Hip Hop For Bernie Sanders Podcast, streaming below.
"I'm trying to let other people know from the hip-hop community that it's OK to voice your opinion about the candidates,” Bun told The FADER in an email. “It's important to start stating your opinion and choosing a side very early.”
In the 30-minute conversation, the guys discuss Donald Trump, the “trap” of college loans, how musicians cope with anxiety and depression, and the decriminalization of marijuana. “Right now we have so many people locked up for marijuana, even in states where it's legal,” Bun said later. “That's insane to me. There's a lot that we need to start correcting. A lot of artists are afraid to voice their opinions about certain things, at the end of the day you have to decide what's important to you."
Sanders will face Hilary Clinton and Martin O’Malley in the Democratic Party presidential primaries, starting February 1, 2016 in Iowa. Texas voters will cast their primary ballots on March 1.
