The Weeknd and Lauryn Hill made up for their heavily publicized Grammys flub Friday night when the duo performed on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Performing The Weeknd’s song “In The Night,” Hill’s appearance was a re-do of the pair’s rumored collaboration scheduled for Monday’s awards. At the Grammys, though, The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, was never joined by Ms. Hill, despite widely circulated photos purporting to show Hill rehearsing with The Weeknd.
Things became contentious when both the Recording Academy President Neil Portnow and a representative from Hill’s camp spoke out about Hill’s absence. Hill’s team released a statement saying, "The Grammys announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval.”
Portnow disputed the statement, telling USA Today, “None of that statement is accurate.” He also said Hill’s Grammys absence was “a disappointment to us and a disappointment to her.”
Hill was finally able to bring her raspy twang to “In The Night,” though, during Friday’s surprise appearance. Watch it above.
