In the early '80s, Jam and Lewis were members of The Time, one of Prince's many side projects. But they were also interested in producing on the side, so they connected with the S.O.S. Band. Prince fired them not long after, and they went on to become of pop's greatest production teams. Their longtime partnership with Janet Jackson was especially fruitful.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio, the young singer Gallant expressed his admiration for the duo. "Those guys are huge influences for me," he noted. "It's really hard to honor those guys without trying to jack their style."
The singer's Ology album will arrive April 6. He told Lowe, "I've gotten to a point where I think it says exactly what I want to say. I can't wait for everyone else in the world to tell me what they thin it says. Because that's going to be special."
