Near the end of a recent interview with i-D, Skepta casually announced that he's nearly done with his long-awaited Konnichiwa album. "I'm finishing my album Konnichiwa this week," he noted. "Finished! Done! Three years of my life encapsulated on a CD."
Once the project is complete, he plans to head to Japan. "Japan's been trying to get me out there to do shows," he continued, "but I didn't want to go there without my album. I want my whole Konnichiwa setting to be correct when I go there. I've gone to Australia, New Zealand, killed that, went to Hong Kong, killed Europe, went to Nigeria, killed Africa, went to America, smashed the East Coast and the West Coast. You see what I'm saying? But I've never been to Japan, so to go in May with this, I'm buzzing. Life is sick, don't cry for me when I die."
Last summer, Skepta told The FADER he had finished eight or nine tracks. "I want to find time to maybe write some deeper stuff," he added. "Rather than just making stuff that’s always going to get people hype and shit... otherwise, I’ll just be writing about bullshit, stuff that people that don’t do music won’t be able to relate to."
On Instagram, the grime MC posted a photo with the caption "official tracklist artwork." A representative for Skepta was not immediately available for comment.
