"Ascension" appeared earlier this year through Ryan Hemsworth's Secret Songs label. "There's no real pop structure in the songs I make," RYAN Playground noted at the time. "I've heard a lot of comments about my music not being structured with verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge or something like that. But that's not what I want to make. I want to do it differently." "Ascension" opens with pleasantly atmospheric sounds: chimes, something resembling bird calls.
In the clip for the song, the camera tracks the producer as she climbs the stairs to a dark rooftop. Initially there are grainy crackles in the footage; these are soon replaced by spindly lines of animation, and the frame starts bursting with neon lights.
