Kamixlo’s “Mata Lo” Gets An Emotional Remix Courtesy Of Scratcha DVA
The Hyperdub producer turns up the volume in this ruthless edit.
South London producer Kamixlo makes rough-around-the-edges reggaeton that kicks you in the gut, and his 2015 track "Mata Lo" is one of his most deadly assaults. As part of a new remix project curated by Radar Radio DJ Amy Becker, the track lives to kill another day in the hands of Hyperdub stalwart Scratcha DVA. Scratcha's edit, under the moniker DVA HiEmotions, sends the track spinning around your head like a knock-out punch, stripping the percussion back to its most sparse point only to then unleash a flurry of synth melody and sped-up vocal samples.
"Scratcha DVA is someone who I've always looked up to as an artist that pushes boundaries without caring what people think," Becker explained to The FADER over email. "In my opinion, people forget what an OG he is in the game...or maybe the new generation of music fans should be educated! So I figured letting him loose on a track produced by someone as fresh to the scene as Bala Club co-founder Kamixlo would open people's eyes (and potentially damage their eardrums). I sent Scratcha a few tunes that I had in mind for him to remix, and 'Mata Lo' was the once that made him call me to say, 'Yep, I could fuck up this track.' A month later, the track was well and truly fucked up." Listen below, and then revisit Kamixlo's Gen F profile or Scratcha DVA's FADER Mix.
Amy Becker's RMX EP is out on vinyl on June 17.
