Yesterday, during her set at the 2016 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, Rapsody announced that she is the newest signee to Jay Z's Roc Nation, making her the first female MC to make the company's roster. The North Carolina rapper has been steadily putting in work since her early days with Kooley High and her 2012 debut solo album The Idea of Beautiful, which eventually led to her feature on Kendrick Lamar's "Complexion (A Zulu Love)" on To Pimp a Butterfly (2015).
Because Roc Nation offers separate management, label, and publishing services, it's currently unclear to what extent Rapsody is signed with the company. According to Complex, Rapsody announced, "I'm Jamla/Roc Nation," revealing that she will still be part of the 9th Wonder's independent Jamla label as she moves forward with Roc.
9th Wonder was in full support of the move as he posted "#WelcometoJamRoc" on his Instagram. View below.
