London rapper Jay Prince has spoken before about how his heartfelt 2015 release Beautiful Mercy was his most personal ever. It digs into some dark depths, but "Good Right Now," the closing track of the mixtape, is a jubilant brush-off: Give a damn how you feel/ I'm just trying to keep it real. In the video, premiering on The FADER above, Prince embraces this low-key and intimate vibe by shooting in his hometown and shouting out his friends.
"'Good Right Now' is one of the songs that truly means the most to me," Prince told The FADER over email. "This is a song that was inspired by the people I grew up with, and that have impacted my life in a big way. I did a lot of name drops, which is something I usually don’t do, but I wanted to hit home with this one, and let my people know how much they mean to me.
"This whole video was DIY and created by people that I know personally. They either grew up in my hood, or are my best friends who were there when I was doing this music and nobody was trying to hear me."
