TRP, an independent online radio station launched in Toronto in November 2014, announced their impending closure in a Facebook post. August 26 will be their final day of broadcasts, they shared, due to "recent developments [that] have made our financial position untenable."
In its less than two years of broadcasting, TRP quickly became a popular space for local music fans, DJs, and producers; the station wasn't loyal to a genre and was, instead, driven by the diverse, personal tastes of its roster. London-based online radio station NTS recently presented a series of shows featuring Toronto talent from the TRP studio space on College Street.
Station archives will be maintained on TRP's Mixcloud profile. Rather than an outright end, TRP said they will use the downtime to "rethink how we can operate our little community," and that listeners should "stay tuned."
Frazer Lavender, a media-advertising consultant, founded TRP with the mandate to be "different from any other local audio outlet." Their first show was Technocracy, "a technical-metal/jazz-fusion hour.”
